We had asked Marco to pick us upward at 8am the adjacent day, tour Chinchero before dropping us off at our even at San Blas Cusco. Again the conception went off real well.

Leaving all our bags inwards the car. nosotros toured Chinchero. Marco was so reliable! Of course of pedagogy nosotros behave our passports, money with us ever inwards pouch nether clothing.

Our map helped inwards orienting ourselves. it has a trail of how to comprehend the ruins... curt equally good equally long options.

We walked through the authentic marketplace first... the craftspeople human being the stalls. These are natural dyes made with herbs, corn together with fifty-fifty insects.

The lady is demonstrating how to acquire this shade... this is a natural lipstick.

the weaving frame,

  alpaca wall hangings..

PLAZA:

On the southeastern side of the church building is the smashing plaza that today is the town's Main Plaza.

On its western side at that topographic point is a wall containing large trapezoidal niches that tin terminate easily permit a mortal stand upward up inside; they must have got been used to hold the nobility mummies together with idols that presided over ancestral ceremonies.

That wall with niches has a genuine carved andesite cornice.

St Peter mural below...

The entrails of the fine Inkan edifice were filled upward equally high equally the roofs with populace brought from some other sectors. It was inwards the 1960s when the Inkan palace was discovered nether the Catholic Church. The Inkan palace must have got been real of import because on its facade facing to the southern apparently presents openings of triple jamb that betoken its category.

at that topographic point are images representing Pumakawa symbolized inwards cast of fighting victorious Pumas; together with other images representing Tupaq Amaru symbolized yesteryear the "amaru" (serpent-dragon) equally chaos together with squalor representation.

Inside the church building at that topographic point is a sheet representing the same dark-skinned Monserrat Virgin, where it is possible to reckon angels sawing the mountain; that artwork was painted yesteryear Quechua Cusquenian School creative mortal Francisco Chiwant'ito together with dated inwards 1693. Juan Carlos Estenssoro wrote almost that canvas: " This Virgin, although, Castilian typically, is related with some others of the purely Andean imagery such equally the Virgin of Galleries, inwards which Virgin together with mount are combined". Angels have got condor wings..

Cobble stones have got Incan symbols... serpent here. flowers or inti. Condor, puma.

WAKAS:

Another shrine to the W is called "Pumaqaqa" which is a stone sculptures of ii pumas. To the W of the church building i tin terminate explore these shrines together with diverse ancient inca farming terraces.

After exploring the ruins nosotros traced our way dorsum to the plaza.

Water channels of the village.

Chinchero hamlet plaza, human being blowing a conch statue.

We loved Chinchero, the marketplace much ameliorate than fifty-fifty Pisaq, the church building is awesome, the ruins squeamish together with scenery top notch too. We had been i of the 1st visitors that solar daytime at 9am together with had the whole identify to our selves… over again a lovely experience!!

When nosotros reached Cusco nosotros asked Marco to drive us to Supermercado Orient... no parking allowed at that topographic point on the street, so nosotros raced through the store, bought 7liter H2O bottle, some provisions before getting dropped at Quinoa villa boutique apts, Cusco.

Love these ornate woods balconies.

we laid out for Plaza de Armas…

Cusco… The discussion originated inwards the phrase qusqu wanka ('Rock of the owl'), … the legend is equally follows:

Manco Cápac ( "founder royal") was the legendary offset Sapa Inca of the Kingdom of Cusco. Manco Cápac was a boy of Dominicus God Inti together with Mama Quilla (moon). Manco Cápac together with his siblings were sent upward to the populace yesteryear the Sun god.

Hatunrumiyoc:

We walked through Hatunrumiyoc, with its original Incan walls.

Hatunrumiyuc agency has large stone (House that has a Big Stone).

Not just the 12 angled stone, the whole wall is gape-worthy.

This palace was built yesteryear Inca Roca (1230), who was the son together with successor of the founder ruler Manco Capac together with it was the residence of his identify unit of measurement or lineage called "Ayllu Waqa K'irau" which means, where the sacred object lies.

During the Castilian Colony era, it was built over retaining many original incan features together with belonged to the Marquis of San Juan de Buenavista. Now it belongs to Archibishop palace, Museum of religious fine art together with it is situated i block from the Main Square..... It has this stone perimeter wall nosotros admired on our way to the plaza.

Inside is a smashing Renaissance courtyard with stone arches together with tiles on the walls, together with lovely fountain. (this is included inwards the boleto integral together with nosotros visited the within on our way back)

Plaza de Armas:

We reached Plaza de Armas. Known equally the "Square of the warrior" inwards the Inca era, this plaza has been the scene of several historical events, such equally the annunciation yesteryear Castilian explorer Francisco Pizarro inwards the conquest of Cuzco, 1535.

In 1781, the Plaza de Armas was also the scene of the horrible decease of Túpac Amaru II, the indigenous leader of the resistance against the Castilian conquistidors.

The Castilian built stone arcades closed to the plaza which add together ambience. The main cathedral together with the Church of La Compañía both opened upward direct onto the plaza

Boleto Integral:

We bought the boleto integral for 30soles which includes:
Catedral, Templo del Triunfo (church of triumph), Templo de la Sagrada Familia (Church of the Sacred Family), (all inwards same complex),
Museo Arzobispal (Archbishop palace which equally I mentioned before has the outer walls everyone gapes at)
Templo de San Blas
Temple de San Cristobal.

We visited the 1st laid that evening; San Blas church building the adjacent day, never visited the terminal i equally it’s a piddling off the center.

Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin, also known equally Cusco Cathedral is built on the palace of Viracocha Inca the manly mortal nurture of the famous Pachacutec Inca.

Iglesia del Triunfo, The Church of Triumph:

Iglesia del Triunfo, The Church of Triumph, was built inwards 1536, just 3 years after the conquistadores settled inwards Cusco. It was built over Suntur Wasi, which was an Inca ceremonial edifice adjoining the palace of Viracocha,(where the Cathedral is built now). All these are smashing best examples of colonial baroque way together with nosotros enjoyed the exquisite woods carving together with gilt leafage plating.

Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus (Church of the Society of Jesus):

Next nosotros visited Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus (Church of the Society of Jesus).  This church building is also on the foundations of the palace of the Inca ruler Wayna Qhapaq, or Amarucancha. Its façade is carved inwards stone together with its main altar is made of carved woods covered with gilt leaf. It was built over an secret chapel together with has a valuable collection of colonial paintings of the Cusco School.

We bought a split upward ticket for this church building together with climbed the bell tower to relish the stance over the plaza:

Museo Arzobispal (Archbishop Palace):

A slight drizzle started together with nosotros walked dorsum visiting the Museo Arzobispal (Archbishop palace) on the way. In Inca times it was the palace of Inca Roca. After the conquest the edifice was partially dismantled to build the identify unit of measurement farmhouse Valverde Contreras together with Xáraba, Marquis of Roca fuerte, currently known equally the Archbishop's Palace. It has a stone perimeter wall together with within is a smashing Renaissance courtyard with stone arches together with tiles on the walls, together with one-half the puddle adorns the manor located inwards prime number location. Recognized for its walls is the "The Stone of 12 Angles.

Cuy is the guinea squealer which is a delicacy inwards Peru... this souvenir store is online too.

That was the halt of our 1st solar daytime inwards Cusco, Dec 1st, 2014.

For the adjacent solar daytime nosotros proposed to have got a taxi for the whole day, to see Ccochahuasi animate beingness sanctuary (CAS) offset together with and so go onward to Pisaq. Taxi was arranged from Inka travels yesteryear hotel for $85

DAY 6, DEC 2, 2014:LOST IN PISAC RUINS!!

6.30am: Hotel Quinoa Villa Cuzco, breakfast brought yesteryear the staff. They accept our monastic tell the previous night. Pan cakes, cheese, fruits, yogurt, fresh juice.
I made nutrient for the repose of the solar daytime together with packed it upward to swallow on our hike

 Fresh yogurt...

Taxi came at 7.50am...the driver was an Italian with fluent English.

In retrospect, I retrieve nosotros relaxed because of his fluency together with did non remain alarm equally nosotros should have… nosotros would have got saved ourselves much trouble … but to a greater extent than of that later…

Mirador Ccoraoo:

We enjoyed the scenic ride asking for photograph stops along the way at Mirador Ccoraoo etc…

Ccochahuasi animate beingness sanctuary:

Reached Ccochahuasi animate beingness sanctuarythey are a identify unit of measurement run individual organization, dedicated to rescuing together with looking after animals which have got suffered mistreatment of whatever form from old owners or poachers or illegal hunters who commercialize protected species. I had chosen this because nosotros wanted a close encounter with condors inwards representative our Colca Canyon see after inwards our trip did non give us the opportunity. We did acquire to reckon many condors inwards flying at Colca also but this see was smashing equally good to reckon the mighty condor inwards closed proximity.

The sanctuary is a picturesque place.

 We petted the cute alpacas.

We saw monkey, macaws, eagle, alpacas.

A puma (cougar/mountain lion) identify unit of measurement was a highlight. We got to pet the 2 calendar month old cub equally its mom lazed nearby together with dad paced inwards the far corner.

We together with so entered the netted enclosure for the condors, together with saw i inwards total flying right close us… it was a squeamish sight.

Vicuñas:

The vicuña is aggressive together with was spitting at the owner…

It is the wild ancestor of domesticated alpacas.

Vicuñas produce only 0.5 kg of extremely fine wool a year; the animate beingness tin terminate only live on shorn every 3 years, together with has to live on caught from the wild. The wool is sold on the populace marketplace for over $300 per kg…the production of the vicuña's wool is very soft together with warm. Its properties come upward from the tiny scales on the hollow, air-filled fibres. It causes them to interlock together with trap insulating air. It is finer than whatever other wool inwards the world, mensuration 12 micrometers inwards diameter, it is sensitive to chemic treatment, the wool is unremarkably left inwards its natural color.

The Inca valued vicuñas highly for their wool. The vicuña was believed to live on the reincarnation of a beautiful immature maiden who received a coat of pure gilt i time she consented to the advances of an old, ugly king together with it was against the police clitoris for anyone but royalty to have on vicuña garments...

A vicuña wool scarf costs closed to US$1,500 together with a men's topcoat tin terminate terms upward to $30,000 now!!!

We saw some cuys

and the indigenous coloring together with weaving process,
and walked through the gift shop.

There is a pay equally yous delight scheme together with nosotros dropped 50 soles into the donation jounce equally nosotros had been taken closed to solely yesteryear the possessor together with given a individual tour. They asked us to pick upward some modest souvenirs of our choice for gratuitous together with nosotros got a span of pencils with condor, camel toys on them.

 Mirador Taray:

We saw Mirador (viewpoint)Taray on the way,

proceeded on toward Pisac.

We told our driver our focus was the ruins together with non the market. He said nosotros tin terminate facial expression at the marketplace offset equally it’ll go crowded later. And together with so go onward to the ruins. He gesticulated the directions together with said come upward dorsum hither when yous are through. Now this turned out to live on a bad error together with misdirection yesteryear the driver but nosotros were blissfully unaware at that point…

The marketplace was just setting up…it was 9am… nosotros wandered through,

Smart immature ladies 'manning' the stall here...

I took this pic together with the random lady sitting at that topographic point demanded money for including her!!

Didn't desire to acquire into an argument, so posed for a pic together with and so gave her money!!

bought a modest handbag real good crafted for 12 soles

and went inwards the management of the ruins equally the driver had suggested.

Parque Arqueologico de Pisaq:

I had a map together with nosotros asked the daughter at the ticket counter of Parque arqueologico de Pisaq for some directions together with a map. They had a map only on the wall together with it did non tally with mine. They could non clarify together with told us to walk upward together with nosotros started off climbing the lovely terraces

Some terraces are propped upward with sticks..

Higher together with higher nosotros went together with enjoyed the stance of the scenery sprawling below. These terraces are called Andenes together with the Castilian named the whole mount range Andes because of these extensive terraces.

We heard lovely flute audio from the top together with were the only ones hiking. We had no sight of whatever ruins, so sat at a scenic spot together with had our packed lunch.

How impressive the agricultural terraces are (andenes),  it is just but amazing how these ancient Peruvians mastered the hard geography together with yesteryear agency of irrigation systems together with retaining walls created these astonishing constructions.

We decided to acquire down, saw a lovely fine art school.

Reached the automobile at 12 withal with no inkling of our mistake.

“Had a skillful time, dorsum to the hotel now?” The driver asked.
We didn’t reckon whatever ruins… climbed on together with on but at that topographic point were only terraces” nosotros said
“Oh… tourists drive upward together with reckon the ruins from there” he said
“Well we ARE tourists together with nosotros told yous nosotros desire to reckon the ruins, nosotros would similar to drive upward too… how far is it…  drive us upward now” We asked
“Oh… it’s a piddling far…” he hesitated… “if yous want, I tin terminate drive you. It’s already going to live on 1 o’clock though, they closed yesteryear 4”.
“Never mind, go up” nosotros said, he drove upward the loma together with nosotros arrived at the upper entrance.

This is the upper entrance--paradero alto-- to the ruins. This is where he should have got driven us inwards the morning time together with I was pretty annoyed I had spent precious release energy together with fourth dimension trekking upward terraces.

Our H2O was running out equally well.

PISAC:

The ruins at Pisac demo a complete Inca hamlet including agricultural terraces, ii residential areas, a sacred plaza together with nutrient storage areas.

The location of Pisac ruins allowed the Incas to command the route that connected the Inca Empire with Paucartambo.

The driver pointed at 2 ruins inwards the close vicinity, the citadel together with qala qasa together with said “the third i is the Sun temple but it’s real far together with yous have got to come upward dorsum all the way back. I’ll hold back closed to hither at the entrance. They closed yesteryear 4.”

We walked off to the ruins, non knowing at that topographic point was some other misdirection

I had researched deeply together with made my ain notes of all sites nosotros were visiting and printed them  but at that topographic point was some jinx that solar daytime together with I did non consult my notes…It turned out to live on some other costly mistake/misadventure which I’ll depict after inwards this post…

Andenes/terraced farms:

Pisaq was a ceremonial center, administrative center, cemetery, agricultural view together with urban area,  is idea to also have got been garrisoned.  It has an excellent defensive seat together with is located at a strategic location inwards the valley together with is just 33 km from Cusco.

The terraces of Pisac—there are 500 inwards total.  Corn was grown on the lower terraces, potatoes inwards the middle, together with quinoa grain on the high terraces.

The agricultural terraces are goose egg curt of spectacular.

Not only did they create these high on steep mountainsides, each terrace included an elaborate drainage scheme below the surface.

There are ii sets of andenes or terraced farms. To the northward of the semi-circular Pisaqa are a large set out of that extend a huge distance all the way downwardly to the valley floor. On the southward side at that topographic point are also a set out of terraces, but these halt when they attain also steep a drop.

The town together with these terraces supposedly have got the cast of an Andean Patridge – P’isaqa inwards Quechua together with the rootage of the cry Pisac....

There are inca burial caves on these cliffs in a nearly inaccessible hillside across a ravine from the settlement  not yet fully excavated yesteryear archeologists.
Qantus Raccay, i of 3 residential areas inwards Pisac.

It is composed of fossil oil stone buildings, walls with niches, together with modest squares. These were in all probability armed forces garrisons and, inwards the way of a medieval castle, shelter for villagers inwards times of war.

From hither yous tin terminate appreciate some of the best views of the terraces of Pisac.

 Inca baths:

We walked through the armed forces quarters, citadel together with qala qasa marveling at Incan ingenuity together with the stunning views. These are fountains of the Inca baths, curious for their elegance. They maybe served a religious purpose, maybe for pilgrims? Archaeologists telephone band them the “purification baths”

The path similar a shot climbs upward steep staircases together with niches carved out of the stone itself, amongst a cliff together with through the Q’alla Q’asa (Split Rock) tunnel.
Faced with a vertical stone face, Inca engineers decided to enlarge a stone crack together with bore through the entire cliff—how they did this, with no Fe or steel implements, remains a mystery.

 Sun temple together with intihuatana:

Went upward to the terminal laid of ruins which is the best anyway, with the Sun temple together with intihuatana.

All the while, at that topographic point was practically no i else around… nosotros had the magnificent identify to ourselves… though it felt surreal to have got an exclusive experience , had the disadvantage of non having anyone to follow when the path was non good marked..
Bought this chime from this guy for xx soles. ceremonial view inwards sight. The best stance of the Intihuatana, which agency “sun calendar” inwards Quechua, is from to a higher identify similar this...
Like the Sun temple at Machu Picchu, the Intihuatana is an oval edifice of perfect masonry encasing a votive rock. The pillar atop the stone was used to rail the sun’s movements, and, fascinatingly, the Sun rises exactly to a higher identify i peak to the due east on June 21 together with some other on Dec 21. The walls of 5 other temples environment the temple, including i that was in all probability devoted to the moon.

To the right is a serial of restored baths that catamenia into an secret canal. In forepart of the Intihuatana is a sacred chacana (Inca cross). terraces at Andenes Acchapata leading to the ceremonial center.

Windchime guy told us it was a much shorter way to acquire out downwardly to the hamlet from there… thirty min equally opposed to 2 hours of retracing our way back!

We decided to go downwardly to the hamlet together with acquire take away hold of some one’s phone, band upward our hotel together with contact our driver to drive downwardly to run into us. We followed the arrow together with when no arrow was to live on seen, went inwards the full general direction, saw some to a greater extent than ruins together with got lost.

the shed seen yonder was where nosotros took refuge inwards the drizzle together with got aid from the security guard when nosotros got lost.

LOST!!

The path downwardly was terrible ...in fact it was hardly a path...and I was slipping together with sliding. I had novel residue walking shoes which were non giving skillful grip. Son inwards hiking shoes was fine. I could non go on... I WAS IN TOTAL PANIC AND THOUGHT I WAS STUCK! I could non go downwardly nor could I draw myself upward on the treacherous slope!!Thankfully boy pulled me dorsum upward to safety.

We traced our way dorsum to the terminal post service where nosotros had seen a security guard together with were over again confused which arrow to take. It was starting to drizzle, our H2O was over together with only some raisins together with a granola bar remained. We ate that for a flare-up of energy.

While nosotros were debating whether nosotros should just go dorsum to the entrance, the guard came upward to us. It was yesteryear iv together with they were in all probability shutting down. Our basic Castilian was hardly adequate to convey our plight. We were requesting him to telephone band the entrance guard on his walkie talkie together with tell our driver to run into us down. He understood us; unfortunately nosotros did non have got our taxi set out or the driver’s name.

We were proverb Inka travels, describing car’s make, color, driver’s orangish jacket, white hat…with a steady drizzle pouring downwardly on us. The guard asked us to come upward to his covered shack so that he tin terminate sort things out. We followed him, sat on the bench with a bunch of local women.

As luck would have got it, a High German guy came over for shelter from the rain.
We asked him, “Hello, practice yous speak English linguistic communication or Spanish?”
He said “a piddling of both”…aaahh… our savior had arrived!
He had just climbed upward from the dorsum just then, had non seen whatever ruin, much less the entrance, he told us. He supplemented our efforts to communicate with the guard, the telephone band went through together with the guard gestured us to accept the left arrow for our taxi when nosotros saw 2 arrows proverb village, i pointing down, the other left.

Now this looked incorrect to us but withal with the guard gesticulating nosotros followed the path. The other i looked treacherous to endeavor with my shoes.... so hither nosotros are after our misadventure!!

The views were astounding from hither equally well… the terraces practice facial expression similar partridge wings. Pisaq is supposedly named after the bird.

We reached the halt of the path together with were on the route winding upward to the upper entrance together with downwardly to the village… a looong way to walk to either… no sign of our taxi or whatever i else. It was similar a shot closed to 5!!

We looked closed to together with started walking toward the curvature of the road. Two men walked towards us, talking rapid Castilian which nosotros hardly understood. We asked them for a taxi, they nodded together with asked us to follow them. We walked to the curvature of the route together with saw our taxi… nosotros breathed a sigh of relief together with rushed there, but saw it was just the same make, non ours. It appeared to live on their taxi, nosotros asked them to leave of absence us at the hamlet market, they quoted xx soles together with nosotros hopped in. In 5 minutes, nosotros were at the marketplace parking lot, where our taxi together with driver were standing.

There was a lot of gesticulation together with loud utter betwixt the 2 drivers… we asked our driver to give them xx soles equally nosotros had only bigger notes for which they did non have got change. Son had been livid but I had told him to hold his temper together with job a calm tone to explicate to the driver what had transpired. Bought a bottle of H2O together with guzzled it down…

Our driver quietly asked… “would yous heed telling me what happened?”

I closed my eyes together with listened to measured words from boy who was telling the driver “We are VERY disappointed with the whole drive today ; nosotros had specifically said nosotros are interested inwards the ruins; nosotros had trusted yous to give us right directions together with set us at the right entrance equally yous are the experienced local vs clueless tourists similar us”. Son said “My mom did non sign upward for a whole solar daytime of strenuous trekking, we should have got been taken to the upper entrance inwards the morning. And you should have got waited at the mid way route to pick us dorsum up... Don't know why yous expected us to hike dorsum all the way to the upper entrance!!

“Where to now?” asked the driver. Our earlier conception was to go to Korikancha after Pisac. We had wanted to live on dropped at that topographic point together with release the driver equally his solar daytime would have got been up. “Korikancha is probable to live on closed now, mightiness equally good go dorsum to apartment,” nosotros said. Driver said, “I’ll drive via Korikancha, reckon if it’s open”. We reached Korikancha yesteryear 5.30, boy went upward to the guards together with learnt it closes at 6. I did non experience similar rushing through before it closes, decided to set it off for the adjacent day. We got dropped at our apartment.

When the receptionist asked us how the trip went, boy explained our disappointment using curt sentences together with speaking slow so that the daughter volition empathise our complaint! The hotel had develop the trip together with nosotros said nosotros specifically went through them to live on certain we’ll acquire a skillful deal… nosotros had had much ameliorate experience hiring our ain taxi for our before trips. This had been a horror!

We had scheduled Saksaywaman, Tambomachay, Qenko, Puka Pucara together with Cristo Blanco for a ½ solar daytime tour the adjacent day. We said nosotros did non desire a repeat of today’s experience.

The daughter listened without a word... nosotros hoped she understood what nosotros had told her. She did have got decent English linguistic communication for regular exchanges but she did non react at all hearing our complaint. We actually regretted our Castilian was non skillful enough... it's so rude to await our hosts to know English, nosotros should accept the problem to larn the native linguistic communication of the visiting country!

We had our repast together with relaxed inwards our lovely apartment. In an hour’s time, the bell rang, the receptionist was at our door, proverb “Inka travels apologise for your day, they are cutting $20 from your bill, it’ll live on $65 for today instead of the agreed $85. Tomorrow we’ll ensure a skillful solar daytime for you. On the hotel’s behalf, nosotros are giving yous a gratuitous ride to the motorcoach halt at 6.15am on the solar daytime yous leave Cusco for Puno yesteryear Inka limited bus. Sorry for your troubles!!”

So… that was the halt of Dec 2, 2014. VERY EVENTFUL INDEED!! So thankful that I returned dorsum inwards i piece!!

On going through reviews of Pisac yesteryear travelers on Tripadvisor forum together with others, I tin terminate reckon many mentioning getting lost... so I approximate nosotros have got joined a lodge now!! HAHA!!
